Essential Dog Vaccines in Surat Thani

Why are vaccines important for dogs?

Vaccinations stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies against severe viral and bacterial infections. Many of these diseases have no cure and can be fatal. The cost of prevention through vaccines is significantly lower and much safer than medical treatment once a dog falls ill.

Core Vaccines for Dogs:

According to standard protocols, veterinarians recommend starting vaccinations when a puppy is about 6-8 weeks old.

  1. Combined Dog Vaccine: Prevents Canine Distemper, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus (infectious enteritis), Canine Hepatitis, and Infectious Tracheobronchitis.
  2. Rabies Vaccine: Rabies is a highly contagious, fatal disease that can be transmitted to humans. Thai law mandates that every cat and dog must receive this vaccination.

Endemic Diseases in Surat Thani and the South:

Due to the hot and humid climate of Southern Thailand, including Surat Thani, certain other diseases require particular attention:

  • Heartworm Disease: Transmitted by mosquitoes. Dogs should receive heartworm prevention regularly every month.
  • Tick-borne Diseases: Transmitted by ticks. Regular tick and flea prevention is essential, especially for dogs that play outdoors in grassy areas.

If your dog has never been vaccinated or if you are unsure of their vaccination history, bring them to Makhamtia Animal Hospital for a consultation to set up an appropriate vaccination schedule. We are open every day.
